Rhode Island nonprofits can be Neighbor investors

Rhode Island nonprofits, put your money where your mission is

For the first time ever, Rhode Island nonprofit organizations can literally invest their savings in their backyard.

The Rhode Island Community Investment Cooperative is raising $3.5 million to build community wealth in historically disinvested neighborhoods in Rhode Island. Designed to maximize community ownership in every sense of the word at every point along the value chain, we are the only investment vehicle by and for Rhode Islanders. We are open to non-accredited investors in Rhode Island, not just wealthy people or institutions. And we are owned and governed by our members.

Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations located in Rhode Island can invest in the Local Return Diversified Community Investment Fund as a Series A investor. The minimum Series A investment is $500 and the expected return is a 2-4% annual dividend beginning in year 4. As an investor, you become a co-owner.

The funds you invest will be put to work to build ownership and wealth in Rhode Island. We will make loans and equity investments of $15,000-500,000 into real estate projects or related ventures that (1) create or preserve local ownership of a community asset and (2) have a positive social return for the neighborhood. Specifically, we’re helping small businesses in the hearts of our communities build equity through real estate ownership and assisting aspiring neighborhood developers just getting their start building generational wealth.

And you become part of a select network of financial innovators and community wealth builders. Our investor circle is made up of people who are tied of the status quo and willing to invest in change.
